Fifth Third Bank started out in 1858 as The Bank of the Ohio Valley, located in Cincinnati, Ohio. By the early 1900s, Union Savings Bank and Trust, Third National Bank and other branches joined the banking family.
Union Trust and Fifth-Third National combine forces in 1927. The Fifth Third Union Trust Company is in operation until the 1970s and referred to as Fifth Third by customers. In World War II, the bank supports troops at home and overseas and assists in the War Bond effort. In 1956, Fifth Third had 27 offices in the Cincinnati area.
In the 1970s, Fifth Third introduced Jeanie, an online automated teller. It was the first shared ATM system in the U.S. Fifth Third now has 18,840 employees in ten states.

The Essential Checking Account offers unlimited check writing, and the fee is waived if you keep $1500 in the account or spend $500 a month on your Fifth Third credit card.
Fifth Third Preferred Checking is an exclusive service for high-income and investment checking. You must have $100,000 combined across your checking, deposit and investment accounts per month to avoid a fee for preferred checking. You'll get unlimited check writing, and better CD and loan rates with this account.
Enhanced Checking accounts must have a combined amount of $20,000 once a month across all accounts to waive a fee, or have a monthly deposit amount of at least $5,000. You’ll get unlimited checking and better loan and certificate of deposit rates.
High school and college students age 16 and up with a valid student ID can apply for a student checking account. There's no minimum balance or fees, and students get up to five free Fifth Third ATM transactions each month. Students may also receive a Fifth Third debit card to access this account.
Military checking accounts are open to active duty, reserve/guard personnel, veterans and their families. Fees are waived if you have $500 in direct deposit transactions per month, spend $500 on your Fifth Third credit card, or have $1500 in your deposit and investment accounts once a month.
Express Banking lets you access money quickly. There is no service charge with this account. You won’t be able to write checks or deposit checks at ATMs, but you will be able to cash and deposit checks at bank branches. Online banking and a debit card are included.
Fifth Third offers four different credit cards. A Trio Credit Card has no annual fee and rewards three percent cash back at restaurants and two percent cash back at grocery and drug stores. If you spend $1,000 within the first 90 days of opening your account, you’ll get a $100 cash back bonus.
A Truly Simple Credit Card has a 0 percent introductory APR on balance transfers and purchases for your first 15 billing cycles. There's no penalty for a missed payment and no annual fee.
The Stand Up to Cancer Credit Card helps you support 5/3’s Stand Up to Cancer Campaign by sending a part of every qualifying purchase you make to cancer research. There’s no yearly fee and a 0 percent APR for the first 12 billing cycles.

If you have credit problems, you can still get a Fifth Third secured credit card. Deposit at least $300, and you'll have a credit card you can use to rebuild your credit. There is a $24 annual fee, plus a 25.74 percent APR on balance transfers and purchases. Your credit activity will be reported to the three credit reporting agencies.
If you need to take out a loan on your home to pay medical bills, college tuition, or other expenses, Fifth Third provides Equity Flexline, Easy Home Refi loans, and regular Home Equity Loans.
Easy Home Refi has low closing costs and an option to refinance the mortgage. Interest on the loan might be tax deductible. A Home Equity Loan offers fixed monthly payments, no closing costs, and a fixed rate and term.
The Equity Flexline offers a 2.99 percent APR for amounts of $25,000 or more or amounts less than $25,000 for six months. You'll get a revolving line of credit, low variable rates, and you can retrieve funds in person, online, by check, at an ATM, or via a Fifth third Flexline MasterCard.
Fifth Third has four types of f l. The most popular, the Gold Debit Card, enables you to get cash free at more than 50,000 ATMs. It has chip technology, and you can use it with Fifth Third's Digital Wallet option. This card comes in different designs, including Mountain View, Vacation, and American Flag, as well as the standard gold design.
The Gold Debit Card has no yearly fee.
The Professional Debit MasterCard is perfect for businesses. The statements you receive list personal and business transactions separately. There’s no annual fee, and you’ll receive discounts when making business purchases at certain stores. Like the Gold Debit Card, it is available in several designs.
The World Debit Card MasterCard offers discounts and reward points for every two dollars you spend. You can get cash back with the PreWards program, which is a substitute for coupons. There’s a $3.95 monthly fee for this card.
The Access 360 Debit Card is reloadable. You can use it anywhere MasterCard is accepted. The monthly fee is waived if you deposit $500 into the account in a given month, or if you are a Third Fifth customer.
Perform credit card purchases on a Fifth Third Digital Wallet. Choose from several options to make payments from your SmartPhone. If you have a Fifth Third credit or debit card (with the exception of a secured card), you can set up a Fifth Third Masterpass on your device to make payments and shop online.
